22 January 2007 Happy New Year! Well the transition from 2006 to 2007 went well. The Sepia ended 2006 by headlining at Club Evoke in Portsmouth. The band were received well by the local crowd and we all wish Simon luck with running the club night in the spacious venue. Photos from the night can be found here, along with details of Club Evoke. 2007 kicked off with a gig at Underworld in Camden, London, with a rare appearance from the legends, and good friends, Tik & Tok. With five bands on the bill it presented a varied selection of styles and The Sepia performed a very well received and powerful set comprising of new material and some surprise outings of some of the back catalogue. It was one of the best and most enjoyable Sepia gigs in London and a great way to start the new year. You can see some pics from the gig in the updated Live Pics Gallery. The band are now back in the studio working on the material for the next album. Some of the new proposed tracks have already been previewed live over the past year and have had a great reception so expect to hear more of the new material at future gigs.
8 September 2006 It's been a long time coming but, finally, The Sepia shop is now fully open and accepting credit cards and PayPal ! In it you will find CD's that feature exclusive tracks and mixes from The Sepia as well as, of course, the bands debut album, Splintered. There's also a range of T-shirts in all shapes and sizes. Some of the items are in limited quantity so get them while you can. Visit the Shop to peruse and purvey yourself of some lovely new wares.
17 August 2006 GodLike and More... For those that missed it, the set list was: S9, What Need Is Fear?, Covert Passion, Far Too Long, Venom, Vexation, Polaris E, Frustrate, Stutter, Half Lies. A selection of photos from the gig will be in the photo section of the website soon. Keep a look out for some audio (and maybe even some video footage, but no promises!) of the gig on the website soon. As always it was great to see Katscan - their performance was as strong and powerful as ever. So, what's next? There are a lot of brand new tracks being tweaked and mastered - ready for inclusion on the second album. Some additional songs are also in the pipeline. Finally, there are some exiting gigs being lined up as we speak for later in the year, so check back later for details.
5 February 2006 Band Photo-shoot - Part 1 + Tour News The band spent yesterday in a photoshoot to start off the process of a new image for the next album. They have asked Michelle Robek (http://www.beyondthedarkroom.co.uk/) to take the shots. Michelle is a talented photographer with plenty of music and musician's photography in her portfolio. The planned photo-shoots are firstly indivuduals (completed yesterday) then group shots (either in a photo studio or on location) and lastly some location shots. The latter two sessions are planned for mid-late February, early March. Yesterday's session was a success with over 500 shots being taken, which the band are now sifting through to start the selection process. A number of different ideas will spawn from the selection which should give plenty of artistic options. Below are some 'behind the scenes' pictures...
Expect to see the new image and artwork sometime in April or May this year. In other news, you can expect some gig announcements in the next few weeks, that's all we're going to say!
4 December 2005 The second album is now well underway! It's gonna be a good one.... The band have spent 4 sessions (at three different studios) putting together the new material which has been in production over the past year. These sessions are being used to finalise the song structures and guitar parts. Presently there are enough songs to fill the album, with more in development, giving a healthy choice of tracks. Some guide vocals have been laid down and this process is just picking up speed now. The current feeling is very much upbeat - the songs have great potential and they show a logical progression from the first album, 'Splintered', both in terms of songwriting and production techniques. Along with new studio gear, new member Neil Hester has enhanced the lineup, aiding in both these areas. Rough demo versions of some the new material can be found on the demos page.
The next stage is to finlaise the structures once the guide vocals have been laid down and begin to make second draft recordings. For this album the band intend to gig as many of the tracks as they can before making final recordings. The estimated release date for the second album is spring/summer 2006. In other news the band are looking into an early European tour for the new year. More details to follow. Lastly, ReGen magazine have an interview online here. The interview was done some time ago so apologies for the historic content!
27 September 2005 Due to unforeseen circumstances, The Sepia will not be playing at the Industrial Special at The Garage on 8 October. Our apologies if this causes any inconvenience to anyone.
20 July 2005 A big Hi to all, and apologies for the break in proceedings... normal service is now resumed! It's been a while since we've updated but just because the 'public face' of The Sepia has been quiet it doesn't mean that we've been idle - far from it as quite a lot has been happening 'behind the scenes', so here’s the latest: Whilst the debut album Splintered is still getting great reviews, work on the follow up album continues and so far we're more than pleased with the new tracks. A few of the proposed tracks were previewed at some gigs last year and got a great reaction so expect to hear them in some live sets during the coming months. After taking a few months off from live work we returned to the stage last month at the Alternation one day festival in Bristol where the headline act was RICO. In compilation news, an exclusive remix of 'Frustrate', one of the tracks slated for the next album, has been released on the stunning 'Electro Steel Corp' compilation album from Wire Productions. As well as being on the album the entire thing was also mastered by Jules at The Sepia's main studio, MCS, so you can thank him for it sounding so cool! The album also gained ‘Release Of The Month’ in Orkus Magazine! Other acts featured on the compilation include 8khz Mono, Unter Null plus rare tracks from Zentriert Ins Antlitz, November Process, Fr/Action, Cycloon and many more. For more info and to get a copy head to http://www.wire-world.de/ or www.musicnonstop.co.uk/store/erol.html#5299x31948 – you won’t be disappointed! We also took a short step sideways and wrote two tracks exclusively for 'If Trees Could Talk', a hard-hitting play about the Holocaust, which was produced by the HND2 Drama students at Liverpool University. The play and the music both got excellent reviews and the tracks may be reworked into 'proper songs' later as they got such a great reaction. Now a couple of important announcements. Jim is to be a dad again! Baby Smith number 2 is on its way and should be appearing around October. In order to dedicate more time to his family Jim has decided to hang up his keyboards. Whilst we're well chuffed for him as a dad again we're also sorry to see him go and we wish him and his family all the best for the future. This left the band a keyboard player down - enter Neil Hester! Neil is a talented writer, guitarist and keyboard player (if he could howl into a microphone we'd all retire!) and he got his baptism-by-fire at the Bristol gig. Expect some new dynamics and a few surprises during future live sets! So, that's 2005 kicked off six months too late but what the hell, we'll just have to catch up for the next six - expect new gig announcements imminently and some big announcements for 2006... it's looking up!
22 November 2004 The Sepia are currently appearing on two Compilation albums and are
confirmed for a third: The Sepia have a double page spread interview in this month's Kaleidoscope magazine. The Magazine also comes with a cover disc containing the track 'Covert Passion' from the current album release, 'Splintered'. Also in the magazine is a great review of the album - cheers to them for that one! For further information visit the Kaleidoscope website.
19 November 2004 You may see advertised in some places that The Sepia will be playing Club Noir on 8 December. This is an error, The Sepia will not be playing this gig. Some of the adverts and flyers got out before this was corrected but The Sepia will not be playing that night. A Club Noir gig will probably be happening early next year but the only planned live date for the rest of this year is the Church Of Madness in Reading on 22 December (click here for details). This is the last chance to catch the band this year and the admission is free so why not come along, hear some great music and enjoy a Christmas tipple or five?!!!
